The
band was first formed in 1991 by Marek (drums), Piotrek (bass), Slawek
(vocals), Tomek (guitar), and Artur (guitar). In 1992 during a rehearsal/session
Mutilation recorded their first track/album “The Last Convulsion”
kept in death metal style, which drew the attention of the underground
(death metal) press.
In the same year at MEWA studio in Rzeszów the very first studio
recording entitled “Immortal Visions” took place, which included
seven songs being a follow-up of the atmosphere from “The Last Convulsion”.
Then the recording was mailed to then existing music companies which resulted
in signing a contract with CARNAGE REC. and releasing the official “Immortal
Visions” LP/cassette. Both the underground press and the official
magazines (i.e. Metal Hammer – 3rd début of 93; Thrash’em
All, and in several other then influential/recognized titles) approved
of it.
1994 is indeed an important and at the same time unforunate year in the
history of/for Mutilation as Slawek left the band and so did Artek some
time after. The band had to put on ice for a couple of months. However,
Mutilation managed to get them selves together and found a new guitarist
– Sebastian. The new stuff pursuing the atmosphere of “Immortal
Visions” was soon ready (to be recorded) but once again Fates interfered
and the group fell apart.
After the time of complications and personal reshuffles a comeback is
made possible when Slawek returned and the band acquired a new bass player
— Michal. The crew began to compose music which did not stick to
the classic death metal and finally recorded a new LP “The Future
Remains The Past” in 1995 at TR Studio in Kraków. Unfortunately,
due to a couple of reasons it was not released. An(-other) important moment
came when the second guitarist Artek joined in. With this makeup the band
began working on the next album and in the second half of 1999 recorded
twelve songs still provisionally entitled “Invisible Turn”at
Selani Studio in Olsztyn (including two cover versions “Breaking
The Law” by Judas Priest and “Cornucopia” from Black
Sabbath repertoire). Marek left the group in January 2001 but a new drummer
– Marcin – takes his place. In December Mutilation was again
troubled by dropouts – Artek and Michal left. Fortunately, Piotrek
stepped in.
Renewed, the band prepared their new material – “Possessed
By Reality recorded in/at the turn of September/November at Green Studio
in Kraków , which apart from eight own tracks included a cover
“Cenotaph” by Bolt Thrower. The music was once again good
old death metal. After a short period/span Mutilation signed a contract
with EMPIRE RECORDS for the compact disc release of “Possessed By
Reality”!!!
In September 2002 the band was strengthened by a new member – the
second guitarist Pawel was admitted. At the turn of May and June 2003
the band takes part in a tour “Possessed Tour 2003” in the
company of Slovakian Contempt, Eternal Tear, Tromsnar, and Lemeroth. Except
for that Mutilation has done/performed a great deal of single gigs.
At the moment a follow-up of “Possessed By Reality” is on
its way – studio work will probably kick off on November 11th 2003.
There are going to be more or less eight or nine songs on this album plus
an extra cover version of “Mutilation” form the classic “Scream
Bloody Gore” by Death. The present music written by Mutilation covers
has features of brutal death metal based on so called old school of extreme
music playing. The group members are open to all offers concerning playing
concerts/live performances.
